Rules change by area and can change mid-season. We explain what the rules mean and always link you to the official source โ€” we never copy a limit table and call it current.

Licences โ€” what you need

  • โ€ข A fishing licence is required statewide; a lifetime licence culture is strong here, and a separate paddlefish permit is needed for the snagging fishery.
  • โ€ข Trout areas stocked seasonally may require the general licence only, but designated trout areas have their own gear rules.

How the rules are organized

  • โ€ข Rules are statewide by species with lake-specific exceptions listed in the fishing guide โ€” major reservoirs like Texoma follow special shared rules with Texas.
  • โ€ข Close-to-home urban waters have their own designated regulations and stocking schedule.

Good to know โ€” common mistakes

  • โ€ข Lake Texoma follows a special licence agreement โ€” an Oklahoma or Texas licence (or the Texoma licence) works, but the rules on the lake are their own.
  • โ€ข Paddlefish snagging at places like the Neosho River is permit-based, catch-and-release oriented in key areas, and processing/check-in rules apply.
  • โ€ข Noodling (hand fishing for catfish) is legal in season with licence conditions โ€” one of the few states where it is a mainstream method.
  • โ€ข Free fishing days exist but do not waive special permits or area rules.

This page is a plain-language summary, not the law. Regulations change โ€” including in-season by official notice โ€” and if anything here disagrees with the official source, the official source governs.

AnglerPlan is an information service, not a regulator. If anything here disagrees with an official source, the official source wins โ€” and please tell us so we can fix it.
