How to catch them

Hair-rigged bait over pre-bait

Rig: Hair rig with a small boilie or corn, fished on a running lead

Bait/lure: Boilies, sweet corn, pack bait around the lead

Key tip: Pre-bait a quiet flat for an hour or two. Carp bolt when they feel the hook — use a heavy lead.

Sight fishing on flats

Rig: Small crayfish or nymph fly, or a single corn kernel on light line

Bait/lure: Small dark flies, corn

Key tip: Lead a tailing fish by a foot and wait for the line to tighten.
