How to catch them

Casting bucktails and big rubber

Rig: Double-bladed bucktail or 8-12 in rubber swimbait on a heavy leader

Bait/lure: Bucktails, Bulldawg-style rubber baits

Key tip: Figure-eight on every cast, wide and deep. Most muskies strike at the boat.

Fall live-bait fishing

Rig: Large sucker on a quick-strike rig under a big float

Bait/lure: 10-14 in sucker minnows where legal

Key tip: Slow-drift weed edges in fall while casting a second rod.
