Why it matters
The West Virginia DNR's signature statewide event (a stocked, tagged-fish derby rather than a weigh-in tournament): in its 9th year in 2026 it stocked 50,000 golden rainbow trout across 69 waters, 100 of them tagged for a prize drawing; the golden rainbow is the state's own selectively bred trout, introduced for the 1963 centennial.
