Polish Angling Association (PZW) and the State Water Holding (Wody Polskie)
Rules change by area and can change mid-season. We explain what the rules mean and always link you to the official source β we never copy a limit table and call it current.
Licences β what you need
- β’ The base document is the national angling card, obtained after passing an exam β on top of it you need the permit for the waters you will actually fish.
- β’ Most public waters are administered by districts of the Polish Angling Association (PZW): a district permit covers that district's PZW waters, with options that can extend cover to other districts.
- β’ Baltic sea fishing from shore or boat has its own permit structure, separate from the inland card-and-district system.
How the rules are organized
- β’ PZW districts are the organising unit for most Polish fishing β each district administers its waters, sells its permits and publishes its local rules and exceptions.
- β’ Waters outside the PZW system belong to the State Water Holding (Wody Polskie), fish farms or private owners, each with their own permits and conditions.
Good to know β common mistakes
- β’ The angling card alone authorises nothing on the bank: without the matching district or owner permit for that water, you are fishing without permission.
- β’ Check who administers a water before buying β a PZW district permit does not cover a neighbouring Wody Polskie or farm water, however similar it looks.
- β’ Sea anglers need to follow the separate Baltic permit route rather than assuming their inland documents extend to the coast.
