Japanese Spanish Mackerel
Scomberomorus niphonius
This is the true 'bayu' of northern China β the Japanese Spanish mackerel that floods Bohai and Yellow Sea markets each spring, a blue-spotted speedster made for metal jigs and fast trolling. In Japan it is a prized winter-to-spring fish of the Seto Inland Sea and the Kii Channel, taken by casting and jigging from dedicated boats.
