Freshwater · May-September; hides in sand in winter
Korean Spiny Loach
Iksookimia koreensis
Korea's sand-loving loach — 참종개. It buries itself in clean sand, weaves along stream edges, and is the closest relative of the protected Geumgang specialist (미호종개, class I). 참종개 itself is not endangered-listed, but separating it from close cousins takes care — when in doubt, release.
