The west-coast skate of the famous fermented dish β νμ΄. Mostly taken by commercial fleets in deep muddy water around Heuksando and Mokpo; boat anglers can take it on fish baits on the bottom, but it is honestly a fishery catch rather than a mainstream hook-and-line target. The fermented form (hongeo-hoe) from the south-west is considered a delicacy by connoisseurs.

Identifying features
- Diamond-shaped disc, broad and flat, with rounded wing corners
- Long, distinct snout with translucent areas at the base
- Thorns along the midline of the back and tail in adults
- Mottled brown upper side with pale spots
