How to catch them
Bottom fishing over structure
Rig: Carolina or knocker rig with 4-8 oz lead, 7/0 circle hook
Bait/lure: Cut squid, cigar minnows or whole sardines
Key tip: Use just enough weight to hold bottom; big snapper hit on the drop, so stay ready.
Live-baiting for sow snapper
Rig: Heavy bottom outfit, 80 lb leader, large circle hook
Bait/lure: Live pinfish or vermilion snapper-sized baits
Key tip: Fish the edges of the structure โ the biggest fish hold off the main school.
