Saltwater Β· Year-round; best spring to early autumn, young born in summer

Tule Perch

Hysterocarpus traski

The tule perch is the only fully freshwater surfperch β€” a true surfperch that lives its whole life in the Sacramento-San Joaquin system and Clear Lake, far from the sea. Like its saltwater cousins it gives live birth, with fully formed young born in summer.
