Wenzhou Barbel
Acrossocheilus wenchowensis
The Wenzhou barbel is Zhejiang's number-one native stream fish, at home in the Oujiang and Feiyunjiang mountain streams. Locals call it shiban-yu, 'stream grouper', for its barred, grouper-like look — but it is a small stream cyprinid, completely unrelated to the marine groupers. Its safe stream name is xi-shiban (溪石斑), used here.
