Freshwater Β· Year-round in mild coastal creeks; best in spring and early summer

Arroyo Chub

Gila orcuttii

A small native chub of Los Angeles-basin creeks in Southern California, and mostly an identification page for creek anglers. In places it hybridises with stocked Mojave and Santa Ana suckers, a real conservation concern for this native fish, so handle it gently and release it. Most anglers meet it by accident while fishing tiny baits for trout.
