How to catch them

Micro-hook bait fishing River

Rig: Ultralight rod, size 14-20 hook with a tiny piece of worm under a small float or free-lined in pools

Bait/lure: Worm pieces, bread

Key tip: Use the smallest hook you own β€” chubs nip, so keep baits tiny and watch for the lightest tap.

Dry-fly creek fishing River

Rig: Light fly rod or tenkara, small dry flies and nymphs cast to pool heads and undercut banks

Bait/lure: Dry flies, small nymphs

Key tip: Creek chubs rise freely to dry flies in summer β€” a perfect, forgiving first fly target.
