Saltwater Β· Year-round in Gulf bays; best April to November in deeper channels

Silver Seatrout

Cynoscion nothus

The smallest Gulf seatrout, the silver seatrout is plain silver with no spots at all. It is often mixed with sand seatrout in the same channels, but the silver is smaller and deeper-bodied. Schools gather in deeper bay water and under lights at night, taking shrimp and small soft plastics freely.

How to catch them

Shrimp and soft plastics in deeper bay channels Boat

Rig: Light spinning rod with a 1/4-3/8 oz jig head tipped with shrimp or a small soft plastic, worked along deeper channel edges

Bait/lure: Shrimp, small soft plastics

Key tip: Fish the deeper holes and channel edges, not the shallow flats β€” silvers hold deeper than speckled trout.

Night fishing under pier and bridge lights Shore

Rig: Light tackle with a small jig or shrimp under a float, cast into the edge of pier and bridge light pools

Bait/lure: Small jigs, shrimp

Key tip: Work the shadow line where light meets dark β€” seatrout ambush bait there after dark.
