How to catch them

Surf fishing with small natural baits Shore

Rig: Light surf rod, Carolina rig with a 1 oz (28 g) sinker and a size 4-6 hook, fished in troughs behind the breakers

Bait/lure: Sand crabs, shrimp pieces or bloodworms

Key tip: Keep the bait small and right on the bottom β€” yellowfin feed in tight troughs and bite lightly.

Pier fishing with light bottom rigs Shore

Rig: Light spinning tackle and a small two-hook bottom rig dropped beside pier pilings over sand

Bait/lure: Shrimp or clam pieces

Key tip: Fish close to the pilings on a rising tide and watch for soft taps rather than hard pulls.
