How to catch them

Soft-bait jigging on depth breaks River

Rig: Medium spinning rod, 3-5 in shad soft plastic on a jig head, cast to the break and hopped back at dusk

Bait/lure: Soft plastics, jig heads

Key tip: Fish the last hour of light into darkness β€” the classic zander window β€” and keep the bait close to the bottom.

Trolling minnow plugs Boat

Rig: Medium trolling rod, shallow- to medium-diving minnow plugs trolled slowly along channel edges at night

Bait/lure: Minnow plugs

Key tip: Use a depth counter or leadcore to hold the plug just above the break; most hits come on the turn.
