Freshwater · April-October; active year-round in cool headwaters

Chinese Minnow

Rhynchocypris oxycephalus

A sharp-headed dwarf minnow of cold headwaters — 버들치. It lives in cold, clear mountain streams across the peninsula and northern China and is Asia's counterpart to the European minnow. Schooling over gravel, it is more a test of ultimate finesse tackle than a food fish. Name note: 버들치 is sometimes muddled with R. steindachneri in casual usage (버들개) — the correct Korean name for oxycephalus is 버들치.
