Green Sunfish
Lepomis cyanellus
The big-mouthed bruiser of the sunfish family, built almost like a small largemouth bass. Famously willing and tough, it tolerates poor, warm water that other sunfish avoid, hybridises freely with bluegill (the 'greengill'), and turns up in ponds and creeks across North America.

- Thick, bass-like body, less deep and compressed than a bluegill

- Bluish-green mottling with a faint dark blotch near the rear of the soft dorsal fin
Habits
- Aggressive and territorial; often the dominant sunfish in small ponds
